trust the pause
It seems to me that whenever God gives a promise, it is followed by a pause. Joseph's dream, Abraham's son, Mary's virgin child. Which suggests that a pause is part of the process of the promise.
It says in the book of Acts that during the time of waiting for the Holy Spirit the disciples were united in praising and giving thanks. What had happened to them to be so filled with hope and expectancy? How had this time of waiting become more than a wilderness time? Transformed, instead, into a time of fertile expectancy that would give birth to new beginnings?
