god beside us

Ever wondered why in Psalm 91 it says when you rest in the shadow of the most high you will be kept safe?

Struggling with anxiety, worry or fear? The antidote is proximity. The Bible says draw near to me and I will draw near to you. In order to rest in someones shadow, you have to be near to them. Nearness to Jesus is the solution to every problem. When you are close enough to Him, to be within His shadow, nothing can reach you.

In Psalm 91 it describes the Lord as our place of safety, our strong tower (some translations say fort). His arms are described as wings that encircle us like a shield. Just as a mother hen protects her chicks by encircling them in her wings, so too God enshrouds us with His arms. Within His arms no darkness can overcome. His light shines brighter than the darkness and the darkness cannot overcome the light.

Be encouraged today to cultivate nearness to Jesus. Become determined to let nothing distract you from developing an awareness of His constant presence. Day and night He is there, are you aware of Him?

The problem of our daily battles doesn't lie with the absence of Jesus, it lies with having moved ourselves out of His shadow. Distracted by circumstances, turning our ear to the accusers lies, setting our eyes, mind, heart on the things of this world. Repent means simply to change direction. If you have been encouraged to turn your eyes, ears, heart, feet towards the things of this world, repent. Change direction. Turn around and face back to the one that never moved away from His position beside you. Step back into His shadow and find your rest.
