god’s enough

This week I’ve been reflecting on the idea of being expectant on God and how this can get eroded or diminished, especially during difficult moments, or prolonged “valley of dry bone” seasons.

At these times, rather than being lost in wonder, we can find ourselves feeling just plain lost and stretched paper thin. Stretched with a head down and grip tight mentality to get through each day. But even in the fiercest of storms, God is still patiently waiting, for us to open out our hands and turn to Him for help. To seek Him for the kind of strength that sustains us during those dry wilderness moments.

I wonder, how expectant on God are you right now? Almost one year into a Covid pandemic, are you lost in child like wonder or more head down, teeth gritted, tin helmet and flak jacket on?

I hope this prayer by Dietrich Bonhoeffer (Germany, 1906-1945) helps to remind you of the sovereign power of the Lord and how He really is enough for us at all times and through all seasons.

“O God, early in the morning I cry to you. Help me to pray; and to concentrate my thoughts on you; I cannot do this alone. In me there is darkness, but with you there is light; I am lonely, but you do not leave me; I am feeble in heart; but with you there is help; I am restless, but with you there is peace. In me there is bitterness, but with you there is patience; I do not understand your ways, but you know the way for me…Restore me to liberty, and enable me to to live now that I may answer before you and and before men. Lord whatever this day may bring, your name be praised”.
