new growth
“The season has changed, the bondage of your barren winter has ended, and the season of hiding is over and gone…” Song of Songs 2:11
Sometimes God will tell you that the season has changed, yet to the naked eye everything looks just as before; the ground is still hard, frozen tundra as far as the eye can see, seemingly barren. In those moments, when the promise seems to have alluded you and your heart is faint and weary from clinging on, can I suggest you let go instead. Let go of worrying, fixing, striving, comparing, judging. Let it all go, breathe in deeply and then turn your eyes towards Jesus.
When you look square in His beautiful face you’ll see love looking right back at you. A love so deep and committed to you that it allowed Himself to be tortured, mocked, flayed and then crucified. When you can’t see evidence of new growth springing up around you, turn to Him for strength to keep standing with eyes set firm ahead and breathe and wait.
Spring always comes after winter; new life arrives eventually, and with it comes deep veins of gold and treasure gleaned from the long hard winter. Don’t lose hope.
